Homework
Most nights your second grader will have homework. The expectation for second grade students in the Pleasant Valley School District is twenty minutes of reading each evening. Your child can read independently, listen to reading, or share the reading with an adult. He or she will have a reading calendar to track monthly reading minutes. This calendar is due at the end of each month.
Each week your child will have spelling homework that is due the final day of that school week. It's a good idea to practice spelling every night before the post test that will be given at the end of the week!
Many nights your child will have math homework. This work is intended to give your child extra practice with the lesson from that day in the classroom. If your child struggles with his/her homework, please make a note on that page and I will touch base with them the next day. Also, the structure of Everyday Math lends itself to the homework assigned for that night. Please DO NOT work ahead in the homework folder. Kids need to hear the lesson in class and then practice the strategy at home and working ahead may make it more difficult for your child.
Your child will need consistent practice with addition and subtraction facts. Flashcards, fact triangles, worksheets, Apps, and math fact websites are all good tools for increasing fact fluency.
